Dunno if it will help you, but I uninstall pulseaudio and install esound

when i go to remove pulseaudio it also says it will remove ubuntu desktop, is this a problem?

ok, not sure if i am doing it right, i have sound of sorts now, but something still not right, i have changed the leads from the souncard just in case. I think i am not quite getting the software thing, thanks for your patience

is it 5.1 ?

if you look into sound prefrences you can select whicdh channels are turned up / down (select front rear centre lfe) I leave PCM on about 75%
