    ATI graphics card

I'm building my own computer and now i have to pick a graphics card, but i've heard that there are problems with ATI cards on ubuntu.

The graphics card i've come across is a gigabyte graphics card that is powered by ATI Radeon 4650 HD technology. So before i buy it can anyone tell me if it runs on linux without problems?

    Link if it helps

    Hi,

ATI cards are a issue, if you need to know if your card works, look at the supported hardware matrix, i dont have the exact link, but a quick google search will help. I have the same issue howver its with a older ATi card . Good luck.

I will see if i can find the link for you

You should have no problems with the 4650, it has been supported since it came out. Skip the driver offered when you install and get the latest driver from ati for best performance.

I currently use an HD4650. So long as you get the latest driver from ati's site it works pretty well. I've missed the last couple updates but the driver I have now does everything pretty well. There are minor issues such as when entering and leaving the full screen setting in a movie the desktop image blinks for a half second and then it fixes itself. So it works but just isn't really pretty. The newest version might have fixed those things... If you haven't done it before get the linux driver from:

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

And follow the directions on this page:

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

All that has worked well for me. Good Luck!
