Sudo or GUI to disable/enable laptop touchpad?

This post is related to information I received from this thread:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1280957
but it is not necessary to read it to answer my question.

I'd like to be able to disable my touchpad to try and resolve a problem I have. Is there a Terminal command or Admin. function I could use to accomplish this?

    Cheers!
    Roland
