    Thumbs down xerox phaser 6280N

    hi,
i'm trying to install a xerox phaser 6280N printer but the nearest the installation process gets is a model 6250N (which may or may not be similar).
how do i get the model 6280N added to the list of drivers that the installation process "sees" please?

    p.s.
noobie so any reply needs to be a kindergarten level please.

    p.p.s.
i have tried to install this printer in 5 or 6 other distro's (inc head rat and mandrax) - ubuntu gets FAR closer to it working than any other distro!

    Direct link to the driver.

    Hope that helps.

The 6280N is not in the OpenPrinting Database, if you do get it working you may want to add your experiences to the database.

cheers, i did find that driver already ... and download it.
    however,
during the add printer procedure i could not figure out how to direct it to the driver i had downloaded in ubuntu. i did mange this with other distro's but they then failed with a long and complex message that i simply didn't understand. from memory, it seemed to be some sort of script error.

    Re: xerox phaser 6280N

seems the download file is an rpm. Did you convert it with Alien before you tried to install it? Not sure it will work but you could try the PPD file for the 6180, not sure how much the same they are but they look the same.
    Debian Testing(64bit) + XFCE4 AM2 5200+ ATI Radeon HD4350, 4gig RAM,320Gig and 750gig HDs

what's the difference between an answer and a solution? An answer is what they want to hear, a solution is what they don't want to hear

    Re: xerox phaser 6280N

it has just been pointed out to me, yeah, i missed the hint, that i really should have shared my experiences.
sorry but this all happened a while ago and i have slept since then.

to the best of my recollection:

at first i simply used the 6180 driver and i don't remember having any problems.

however, earlier this year i guess i must have clicked on the rpm file that was contained inside the file i had downloaded from the Xerox site: 6280_Linux.tar
    i.e.
    Xerox-Phaser-6280-1.0-1.noarch.rpm

then i must have just kept clicking, and clicking, and clicking. eventually there are the gzipped ppd files for the three Phaser 6280 models: DN, DT & N

sorry i didn't post this before i tagged it as solved.

    Re: xerox phaser 6280N

Using the openprinting postscript-Xerox 20090512 driver causes the printer to crash and request a restart when printing PDF files.

Because of this I'd reccomend trying the manufactuer's drivers.
