please i need help

so ive just got a new laptop and i want to put ubuntu as the main op system. so i downloaded it and burned the iso to a disk and set my comp to boot to disk. it boots up but when i try to do anything a window pops up that says "error reading boot cd" and it gives me the option to reboot. but it does the same thing every time. please someone help me out

How, exactly, did you download and burn the iso?

For downloading, I would recommend a torrent client to get the best results.

Did you just copy the file you downloaded to a disk, or did you burn it as an iso?

Did you check the md5sum to be sure you got a clean download?


Edit: BTW. Did you get the full installation disks for the "other" OS with the machine? You paid a lot for the "other" OS. Don't pitch the disks. You may want to turn back, and there is no shame in doing so.

The ISO file for Ubuntu needs to be burned as a "disk image", not as a single file on a data disk.

i burned it as an iso image file
when i open it through my comp it has all the files.

What speed ? Sometimes you can get a bad burn, I try to burn them at slowest speed possible

It's possible that the ISO file is damaged or corrupted. Have you checked the MD5SUM? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
