Daemons inside my ubuntu :[

ubuntu ce felt like a perfect distribution for me, but i recently came across the term 'daemon' on the system . i am very unhappy because it relates to the *you know who*. , i cannot teach my kids about Christianity and ubuntu ce because of this. i feel very offended

i request it is changed to angel or another similar term.

The name is similar to "demon," but isn't related to Christianity.

The term was coined by the programmers of MIT's Project MAC. They took the name from Maxwell's demon, an imaginary being from a famous thought experiment that constantly works in the background, sorting molecules.[2] Unix systems inherited this terminology. Answer:

"It is a program that does things in the background."

Seriously, the two words sound alike, but have totally different meanings and are not even spelled the same. If background processes are the most indecent things your children are exposed to, I'd say you are sheltering them fairly well .

May you could answer as follow:

A daemon (or service) is a background process that is designed to run autonomously,with little or not user intervention. The Apache web server http daemon (httpd) is one such example of a daemon. It waits in the background listening on specific ports, and serves up pages or processes scripts, based on the type of request.

But demon is

3. a person considered extremely wicked, evil, or cruel.
4. a person with great energy, drive, etc.: He's a demon for work.
5. a person, esp. a child, who is very mischievous: His younger son is a real little demon.

I'd suggest doing an in depth study of the book of Job with your children.

Why wouldn't you just tell them what a daemon and a demon is?

Demon are in Christianity after all.....

just tell them that technology is the devil and you are all going to hell for even using the computer.
