Linux alternative to windows program inssider? Is there such a program?

    Hi,

I want to try to gather some information about wireless access points around my house, to better set up my network. This program here http://metageek.net/inssider will actually scan for other access points, and graphically tell me what channel they are running on, noise etc. I would like to use it to better setup what channel my router works on, mhz, frequency, etc but I can't find a Linux alternative. Does one exist, and if so, what?

Here are some: wicd, wifi-radar, wlassistant, knetworkmanager. I like wicd most, you can install any of them with your package manager or on a commandline with: sudo apt-get install wicd, sudo apt-get install wifi-radar etc...

All these alternatives falls so far beneath inssider that I would not risk calling them alternatives. Only if one could have gotten that lovely app to run in linux.

Bumping up old thread to provide more info:

You can get Linux versions of InSSIDer at:

A very good find indeed. I'm a little disappointed (not really in inSSIDer) that it needs the gnome network manager to run; I prefer to use wicd to connect to my wireless points. Oh well, inSSIDer is definitely a good enough program that I would gut out any shortcomings in gnome network manager.

Came across IWScanner (might be of some use?)
