    Video files online saved locally?

    hey guys.

I've got a question regarding watching content online.

I noticed in my mozilla mplayer settings that there is a setting which says "save file to home/user/....."

Are all of the videos flash/divx etc all saved on my computer?

i.e could someone see what files/videos were viewed online?

dude, unless you have a way to manually download those files, theyre not going to be on your computer. dont worry, your porn viewing is safe from other peoples eyes.

    Not worried about Porn hehe.

I'm talking safe from Forensic tools. Files like divx are all cached to a location, when you look at that cache file they are the same size as the file even though you havent downloaded it, you streamed the content. Wouldnt the cached file be as good as the actual file HAD you downloaded it?

    Hi okayneil.

Someone please correct me if I get this wrong.

Files that are used are kept in the ram (referred to as caching). If the memory is needed it is simply overwritten.

    Hope that helps.

    Second thought.

If you're using firefox, click edit> prefences> privacy.

If you check the boxes like the following example, you should be fine on that end.

not sure what forensics has to do with this. Are you disposing of a drive and don't want sensitive materials to be recoverable?

Thanks guys, thats the answer I was hoping for. Caching is stored in RAM, i thought it was stored on the HDD.

    cheers
