Re: HOW-TO: FL Studio 9 in Ubuntu (using Wine)

Every time I try to install I get this message.

    Archive: /home/astroblack/Downloads/flstudio_9.0.3.exe
    [/home/astroblack/Downloads/flstudio_9.0.3.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/astroblack/Downloads/flstudio_9.0.3.exe or
/home/astroblack/Downloads/flstudio_9.0.3.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/astroblack/Downloads/flstudio_9.0.3.exe.ZIP, period.
Can someone tell me what this means, and what I should do?

Right click on the file, and select "Open With" -> "Wine"

    and for wineasio
    apt-get install wineasio
    then
    sudo ln -s /usr/lib32/wine/wineasio.dll.so /usr/lib/wine/wineasio.dll.so
    regsvr32 wineasio.dll

    should be ok
AHHH, that was the reason my wineasio.dll wouldn't register -- didn't have it in the right directory. (Which I might've discovered sooner if regsvr32 gave me any helpful output like 'file not found,' rather than just saying 'failed to load dll.') Heaping thanks!

Assuming that you have followed each step...I had the same problem.

If you are running jack/wineasio and your patchbay has got the wine .xml file loaded, then go into FL Studio's config and under the audio tab click the dropbox and choose "wineasio". Your sound sound then route through that connection and it should work. Also just peek at the connections in jack to make sure things are routed correctly.

So I got it up and working first and then decided I wanted WineASIO. Although I got the installation of the DLL fine, FL Studio won't recognize it in the audio settings. Should I have to reinstall the program for it to work?

Hi, did you run the command

    regsvr32 wineasio.dll

    ?
It will reply that the .dll is registered, if successful. Then wineasio will appear in appropriate menu choices in windows host apps.

    Cheers

Yep, I just did it again to be sure:

    Code:
    regsvr32 wineasio.dll
err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on USB Device 0xd8c:0x0c, disabling mixer
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on HDA ATI HDMI, disabling mixer
    Successfully registered DLL wineasio.dll
Then I got to FL Studio's audio settings and find "Primary Sound Driver" and three instances of "default". I don't think I missed any steps, but I wonder if it's a problem that I separate my installations using PlayOnLinux. Should I use some special command to run regsvr32?

Re: HOW-TO: FL Studio 9 in Ubuntu (using Wine)

I have FL Studio and wineASIO running in realtime mode.

I'm using Jackdmp (aka JACK2 or Jack 1.9.4), wineASIO 0.7.5 and wine 1.1.38.
My audio card is Edirol's external firewire card (Fa-66), so I have to use FFADO driver (simply named 'firewire' in Jack).

Also, I run wine with command "chrt" to give realtime priority for FL Studio (dunno if it really works, but I've seen people using it with Reaper..)
    Code:
    chrt -f 80 wine <path to .exe>
Basically, this works pretty okay. However, I'm experiencing XRUNs. Not like continuous stream of them, but for example they may occur when playing big project or when loading a project.

Somehow, it seems that these XRUNs are not result of my sound setup (soundcard, jack settings), but from wine itself, since they appear when I start fl studio, open a project or a plugin etc. Or at least this is what I believe. Now, the question for me is, can I live with these XRUNs. For most times, I don't hear them - I'm just a bit (too) perfectionistic person.
