installed ubuntu over freebsd, now computer won't boot

    Hi,

    I got a laptop with freebsd pre-installed.

The next day I popped in an ubuntu 9.04 cd and installed ubuntu. Installation went fine. Computer starts up, then shuts down just before the splash screen. Computer *will* boot and run perfectly from a live cd, though...

Any thoughts? This computer works. I can see the files and directories on the hd via the live cd.

    thanks for any help.

When you installed Ubuntu you did set it to format ,right? if not you might have some bsd code left on the partition....

im not familiar with bsd but id try format it from the live cd with gparted , or reinstall and choose to use the whole disk
    What arrests my attention...
is the fact, that this space is inhabited.

Re: installed ubuntu over freebsd, now computer won't boot

thanks for your replies. i did opt for the use entire disk during the ubuntu install.

i just tried booting without the power cord connected, and it started up. then later, after installing some updates after the fresh install, it wouldn't reboot with the power cord connected or not...

i'm going to rule out old bsd code on the drive, maybe use another drive altogether, and hope it isn't some power supply issue.

    regards,
