    Can you do 1080p

    Hi,

I am looking to get a 1080p monitor but would like to confirm that my laptop will output it before i purchase one. I have a hp6799ea with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS - 256 MB graphics card. Can i output that resolution on the vga or the hdmi port? does anyone own the same laptop and could tell me? Thanks in advance.

Most high end computer monitors/cards have a much higher resolution available than 1080p. A high end cinema display will outdo any 1080p. (I have a 24" with 16 x 9 aspect ratio running 1600 x 1025 with a 1000 to 1 contrast ratio that is color managed for photo work. BUT remember that most current cable transmission is 720 for HD!
Unless you need that display for on board computer work or for viewing BluRay, it is a waste of money in most areas of the world! (some dish nets now transmit in 1080P, but not all of them yet.)
