I've packaged a new 0.6 release, with various fixes to VLC and Amarok support:

    - Fixed force-close when Amarok 1.4 is stopped
    - VLC now shows its video title in the media info panel
    - You can now increase VLC's volume to the full 200%

Get it fresh from Sourceforge or AndAppStore!

I was having some problems pushing the latest source code for the 0.6 release to Sourceforge. Turns out they changed their service so I needed to change my Git config as described here.

Anyway, the source code is now up-to-date, so anyone interested can download it and maybe even help out!

I'll have a look tonight. I'm not great with Java, but I'll be happy to test.

I would love to see an android remote that would let me control kaffeine particularly the dvb tv. Would it also be possible to use the phone trackball and keyboard as devices on the PC?

    Hey r-mo,

I will definitely add support for Kaffeine, and in particular the DVB support. Tesla does not have a playlist function yet, so channel changing will be a little cumbersome until that has been added (which is also planned). Banshee support is already available, so you should be able to control that straight away.

At the moment, I don't plan to add raw mouse/keyboard control support, as it is slightly out of scope of Tesla's objectives. I recommend taking a look at the RemoteDroid app or Gmote's "Touch" mode for this kind of functionality.

Congratulations on getting your HTC Hero

Any chance of developing this app for Maemo as well? Would be handy.

It's not an impossibility, although in honesty right now the application is completely native to Android, so straight porting would be tricky.

The best chance would be to re-write the back-end service for Maemo, and build a cross-platform Web front-end to support a UI on both systems at the same time. Both platforms could share the media player command database and general architectural design. Once this was done for a second platform like Maemo, it would be much easier to port the application to iPhoneOS, Blackberry OS, Symbian, etc. The biggest problem will be doing the first port.

My time is going to be pretty much consumed with the milestones for the existing Android implementation, so I don't see myself finding much time in the near future to tackle this. However, if others wanted to take on the task, I will be happy to help out as much as I can. I would definitely like to see Tesla on non-Android phones.

Having said all that, if a compatibility layer for running Android apps on Maemo is released, then I may look into doing a port myself sooner rather than later.

Please do! I'm planning another release in the next couple of days. There will be some cool new stuff and a lot of improvements on stability. But definitely try out the 0.6 release in the meantime.

Support for Kaffeine is on its way, amongst other things.
