How to activate the SPDIF realtec hda port on a P5N7A-VM asus motherboard

I can not hear any sound at all from the HDA SPDIF port on my Asus P5N7A-VM motherboard. It works on windows but I want to become a completely linux user. Thus I need to be able to activate this port.

Same problem here. I've been following a couple of the sound debug threads but no luck so far. I'll post back if I figure it out, but it's been frustrating. Anyone else out there get this working?

Wow, Google fail on my part. The thread that fixed me was one entry down the results page Just follow this guy's instructions:

Turns out I almost had it right myself, but was using model=5stack-digout instead of the 6stack. So happy to have this working!
