Has anyone successfully wiped OS X and put grub/linux on macbook?

I'd LOVE to just wipe OS X off my macbook and replace the base with grub, then linux and ubuntu. From the little I've heard, macbooks won't let you do that. Is this true? Or has someone figured it out and posted a how-to?

Here is the idea! It may be possible to use bootcamp for this purpose. I have read that some were able to use boot camp to install windows but instead of installing it on the small partition created they installed Winblows on the OS X partition and then just delete the smaller partition....So it might be possible to do something similar with Ubuntu. I have searched quite a bit on this topic but haven't found exactly what you are looking for. I found some of the info on boot camp here. Hope it helps and good luck!

I did this before on my old MacBook 2,1.

It's really satisfying not running OS X but there are a few problems.

You don't get firmware updates. I was missing a lot of the updates over the past few years.

I didn't install rEFIt and had a grey screen at boot for about 1 minute before grub started running.

It's a nice set up but now I have a new MacBook Pro 5,5 with OS X on a small partition and rEFIt just in case.

When I installed ubuntu server on my mini. All I did was put in the CD and cleared the partition and installed ubuntu. The grey screen in the beginning still shows up, but no sign of OS X.
