How to install a Linux on my Windows Vista laptop?

I want to install a Linux on a VM on my Windows Vista at home. I don't want dual boot. Some posts pointing me to this Virtual Appliance Marketplace. Is this the right thing for me to download?

I just want to run some simple applications like CVS and Subversion.

    Thanks

Thats an Ubuntu Server, not Desktop. Its fine if you dont need a graphic desktop.

You can also install Ubuntu "inside" Vista with WUBI (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide)

    Good Luck!

If you want to install it into a VM download Virtualbox, it creates a virtual machine which you can use to run another OS on your desktop, it's pretty cool. www.virtualbox.org

I would go with Virtual Box for VM's.

You could try Wubi as it installs Ubuntu as a program then allows you to "dual boot".
