After I installed the proprietary Ati driver (either with Jockey or the latest one from Ati website) X won't start. I get only a text login screen flashing in front of me. Xorg.0.log says "board vendor info: third party graphics adapter - NOT original ATI". I find this pretty strange.
BTW the cdrom eject button doesn't work either.
Update: After changing the Display setting in BIOS my Ati card is working, power consumption is better, HDMI port is working, brightness adjusting is working.

Ive got the 4810t with switchable graphics. Currently as a dual boot, with 9.10 what effect if any will the switchable graphics fix have? I.E will it effect the acer power saving software in win 7, such as changing between the two automatically.
Also with that fix do the graphics automatically switch when necessary in ubuntu? Sorry I dont really Understand the code.
Does any of you have a problem with switching the screen to an external monitor? When I try it sometimes I get black screen on both monitors and the external one won't even work until I disconnect it from the power supply. It's pretty strange. I'm using the latest Ati driver (9.11), v1.31 BIOS and LSL 3230T Fujitsu-Siemens monitor.
I apologize if I should be able to find the answer somewhere else....
I'm trying to run the acpi mod on my U330 in Karmic and it seems to be breaking something... When I restart after doing it I get what I think is a 'kernel panic' as the computer tries to start up. I didn't get much out of scanning through the printout when it quit. Any suggestions on what should be my first action?
To get things working again I went in the recovery console and commented out 'lenovo_acpi' in the /etc/modules file and then ran depmod, this was just my guess at keeping the mod from running based on a quick look at the man files for the shell commands.
I believe I had the mod working in Jaunty last night, but never checked to make sure the ati card was actually turned off, although I had just downloaded Karmic and wanted to give it a try....
Also, when I ran the shell commands it was necessary for me to put in the actual '2.6.31.15-generic' instead of the 'uname-r' as that was not working and I believe this was a reasonable solution as that's the kernel being currently used. Thanks for any help
Who knows how to use the lenovo script with dkms?
The lenovo_acpi module fix works fine for me. According to powertop the power usage goes down from 24W to 15W.
$ sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
Aspire 4810T
$ sudo dmidecode -s system-version
V1.30
The bios settings is "Switchable graphics"
One problem I have is that after a suspend to ram the power usage goes back to 24W and I have to do a "rmmod lenovo_acpi && modprobe lenovo_acpi" to get back to low power usage.
Any one who knows how to auto enable the module fix after a suspend to ram?
jacktow thanx. lenovo_acpi is awesome (~4+ hours)
Hi,
I made a pkg available on my personal page (rpm link).
To use it under ubuntu, you must install dkms and alien before.
Under root (or sudo) :
apt-get install dkms alien
alien --script lenovo_acpi-0.1.0-1DKMS.noarch.rpm
dpkg -i lenovo-acpi_0.1.0-2_all.deb
To load the module, you can test with 'sudo modprobe lenovo_acpi'.
Check before/after the benefits under powertop (apt-get install if needed).
Add module in /etc/modules to load it automatically at boot time !
Have fun.
PS: it runs well for Lenovo U330 and Acer Timeline 4810TZG (su4300/ati/4Go/500go).
