I really don't know what I messed up in the code, but I copy/pasted yours, rebuilt the module as timelinex_acpi, and now it works!

I gotta recharge my battery and see how many hours I got now, without the module it was about 3+ hours in Ubuntu, and 8+ hours in Win7...

    Thanks!

Nice to hear that it is working now!

For the battery time, I really like this KDE plasmoid: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/?content=123767

With fully charged battery, Ubuntu claims to have 7-9 hours worth of battery life, that's a great improvement. If I could get it to control screen brightness it might almost be on par with win7...

Going OT a bit, but if you have any tips/tricks/tweaks to get more battery out of the 3820TG, please share

Here is a something about the brightness, it works for me: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...57#post9291657

In case you also have problems with quirky graphics on the boot splash and non-working Ctrl+Alt+F1 consoles, try this fix.

The powertop tool shows some nice power saving tips.

There are some more commands at http://linux-macbook-air-killers.blo...ine-3810t.html , but except for the wireless power saving I have not tried them yet.

One of the hybrid-graphics-linux Launchpad team members has created a Linux kernel module to call ACPI methods through /proc/acpi/call. The code is here:
    http://github.com/mkottman/acpi_call
You can try it by installing the module and calling it like this:
    git clone http://github.com/mkottman/acpi_call.git
    cd acpi_call
    make
    sudo insmod acpi_call.ko
    ./test_off.sh

    Cheers

I'd also like to hear the current status of this model. Does everything work out of the box?

Negative, I just got my 4810TG (with ATI) and some things do not work out of the box (installed lucid):
    - Suspend to Disk (Suspend to RAM worked for me)
    - Reenable Touchpad after disable
    - Graphic card switching (I disabled the ATI card with the kernel module mentioned above, it's still visible in lspci, but energy consumption in powertop looks better.)

    See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes for some fixes.

Hm, I have the same configuration, but everything has worked out of the box. Suspend and touchpad is fine, and I use ATI (that's why I bought with ATI). I can use the it up to 6 hours from battery.
