Updating BIOS with a .bin and no floppy

    Hi,

    I have no floppy drive.

I have an ASUS A8N-SLi Premium motherboard. I'm still using the original 1001 2005/02/18 BIOS and wish to update to the 1303
2007/07/13 BIOS. I downloaded it from their website ( http://support.asus.com/download/dow...-SLI%20Premium ) and it gives me a .bin file.

How can I update my BIOS? Thanks!

Here is a nice guide on flashing the BIOS using Ubuntu: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=318789

There are instructions there on how to create a bootable CD instead of floppy.

Unless there is a specific breakage in your BIOS that you need fixed I wouldn't bother with it.
Asus is good about taking care of botched BIOS updates under warranty,
but the waiting for that new CMOS chip in the mail is killer, as your computer is "bricked" in the meantime.
