Did that. Now the connection is just gone. No new connection is detected.

No modemmanager here. Looks like that package is recently updated. Should that have been a dependency of the recent network-manager update?

I have removed modemmanger and network manager to test it

    Code:
    root@macbook:~# apt-get install network-manager
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
      modemmanager network-manager-gnome
The following NEW packages will be installed:
      modemmanager network-manager network-manager-gnome
0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/874kB of archives.
After this operation, 7111kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?
modemmanger is a dependency of network manager

In Synaptic on a 'mark all upgrades' it wanted to install modemmanager, so I think it's important.

As an aside, I haven't yet upgraded to 0.8; I'm waiting for pptp and openvpn plugins.

Okay, don't know why aptitude didn't pick up on that in the first place. Installed modemmanager, rebooted and now...what a tease! When I plug in the modem, network applet sits and spins with both lights green, but never fully connects. I get an IP and DNS, but can't resolve any external addresses. Log is showing:
    Code:

So close! Tried plugging in in multiple times with no change. One difference I am noting was that previously, when working prior to update today, it showed up as Automobile Broadband connection and connected automatically. Now it showed up as NEW mobile broadband connection and made me select Verizon.

please connect again post the result from

Re: network-manager .8 broke USB 3G mobile broadband

    Code:
    :~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
    nameserver 66.174.95.44
    nameserver 66.174.92.14
Same DNS nameservers I was getting from this connection when it was working previously. Not sure what the holdup is at the end to complete the connection?

Re: network-manager .8 broke USB 3G mobile broadband

Also, a bit of a discrepancy here:
    Code:
    :~$ ifconfig ppp0
    ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
              inet addr:75.193.XXX.XXX P-t-P:66.174.121.64 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
              RX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:5 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
              RX bytes:64 (64.0 B) TX bytes:97 (97.0 B)
So, it looks like I'm all hooked up, but wait...

    Code:
    :~$ nm-tool

    NetworkManager Tool

    State: connecting

    - Device: ttyACM0 [Verizon connection] ----------------------------------------
      Type: Mobile Broadband (CDMA)
      Driver: cdc_acm
      State: connecting (getting IP configuration)
      Default: no

      Capabilities:
    Not so much then.

Re: network-manager .8 broke USB 3G mobile broadband

I am getting the same behaviour with my Huawei E220 connecting to Optus 3G

This is with Karmic 9.10 64bit Alpha 3. Fully patched

Network Manager just spins around and never completes the connection.

    cat /etc/resolv.conf
    nameserver 61.88.88.88
    nameserver 61.88.88.88
    # Generated by NetworkManager

    ifconfig ppp0

    ppp0 Link encapoint-to-Point Protocol
    inet addr:114.73.zz.zzz P-t-P:10.64.64.64 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:14 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

    - Device: ttyUSB0 [Optus 3G] --------------------------------------------------
    Type: Mobile Broadband (GSM)
    Driver: option1
    State: connecting (getting IP configuration)
    Default: no

    I'll log a bug report
