I am building a computer rig with this... (ALL PARTS ARE LINKED TO A PAGE ON NEWEGG)
Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
CPU: Intel i7 920 (2.66Ghz)
RAM
Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600
Capacity: 6GB (3 x 2GB)
Speed: 1600 Mhz
Cas Latency: 7
Timing: 7-7-7-20
Voltage: 1.65V
From what little I know... the i7 920 runs stock at 1066 Mhz.
... so if I have RAM that has an XMP profile and I don't mess with the settings at all... what will happen?
Will I be at the same latency, timing, and voltage?... Just underclocking the RAM to 1066?
I have no clue! I don't know if I want to overclock just yet... but to get it all running at 1600 Mhz I would have to overclock the i7 from 2.66 to 4.00!!! That seems like a lot to me...
I will however have a case with amazing airflow (NZXT Tempest). I am even replacing the stock fans with some really nice ones. I will also have an aftermarket CPU heatsink (Xigmatek Dark Knight) with Arctic Silver 5.
Do you think that air-cooled setup will handle 4.00?
