Last thing first, the icon set is area0.43 from gnome-look
The album art trick, simple but fiddly is all. Find a wallpaper where you can tuck the album art behind, like the girl in mine. Load it into the gimp/photoshop whatever and snip out a rectangle where you want the album art and text to go. I used 600x200 into a new image (we are done with this one now). Then go into your new rectangle one and carefully cut out the person/thing you are going to tuck behind, paste that into another new image. This one should now have a transparent background so it just needs tidying up a little, run a eraser with a soft edge around the edges to smooth them out. Save it.
Go back to the rectangle and new layer, add a black>transparent gradient right to left in my case, then drop opacity to 25% (ish), I added 1 pixel line edges to top and bottom also, save it.
Now, in your conky, you need to make it transparent ofc, and position it roughly into place on the wallpaper and load in the background rectangle (the one we made a little darker) then fine tune the positioning.
Then get the album art loading and now we finally load the smaller piece we cutout of the actual item we are tucking behind and position it ontop of the album art :]
Illusion complete, and really it sounds worse than it is, should only take 15mins or so...
Thanks a lot! I'll have to try that out when I finally get home and get conky all figured out.

Wow didn't notice at all that it was partly hidden. Nice trick with conky.

There would probably be much better wallpapers to pull off a nicer effect, just I had the idea and that wallpaper was handy.
I'm thinking it would be doable to manipulate the image too from conky using imagemagick, possibly rotating, add perspective to stick it onto walls etc... Would depend on when Conky polls for a new image, if its every refresh then forget it, but if its only when it changes then should be doable. Might play tomorrow and see if there is a CPU hit.
