KDE4 - lighter than 3.5?

I remember when KDE4 was first announced, one of the big promises was that it would be lighter than 3.5. Now that KDE4's pretty much mature, can anyone confirm either way?

Which is lighter - 3.5 or 4?

I both used 3.5 and 4.x , from my experience it is lighter and faster than 3.5

KDE4 is definitely not lighter in terms of memory consumption than KDE3.5, and it's likely this will never change:

(thiago's posts are very informative).

Some people find it faster than KDE3.5, but this is heavily dependent on the quality of your graphics card drivers.
