    The 7 Windows Itch

    Morning,

Having been a keen tester for my workplace of the Beta and RC versions of Windows 7 and Office 2010 I was wondering if Redmonds latest incarnations will win over any Linux fans here?

They seem to be getting a lot right at the moment, I think Windows 7 will be a big hit and MS will probably win back the people that hated (rightfully so) the dreaded Vista!

    What are your thoughts?

    Rob

    Vista < XP < Win7 < Ubuntu

Win7 isn't good enough to make me want to use it as my main OS (but it is good enough to make me wait until it comes out to buy my new laptop).
    Yesterday it worked.
    Today it is not working.
    Windows is like that.

Yeah I agree, Win7 will never replace Ubuntu as my primary OS but I will def have it as a VM...

I will never dissent from linux, unless usability fades. I dont hate MS like I hate mac, and mac fan boi's, but I like being able to do as I please with my OS. I also like the fact that with linux your main desktop can still operate as a stable server with few performance issues. Though I will say that MS seems to have better power management.

I don't think anything Microsoft puts out will be enough to convince me to switch from Linux, unless they go open-source with Windows (and I mean really open-source, according to the OSI's definition). Ubuntu is too awesome of an OS, and it does what I want and does it WELL (for the most part, despite some of my recent threads).

I dont' see new filesystem, new kernel, new gdi, what I see is same old registry, dll and the utter headaches associated with those. When will MS stop marketing old wine in new bottle. If 7 truly had a revised registry less structure, I would have considered even though it still has good old NTFS from NT4 that I used to use years back.

Haha it isnt even a new kernal its vistas basically- 6.2 or something so technically it should just be called Vista 2.0!

Ubuntu has awesomeness all over it- i mean just look at the Add/Remove app- right from the install i can install Beneath a Steel Sky and Alex the Alligator!! How can MS compete with that
