Ubuntu doesnt Hibernate

Yesterday I installed the latest version of Ubuntu (9.04) on my laptop and instead of shutting down I am more comfortable with my laptop hibernating but when I click "Hibernate" it sends me to my screen saver without turning the laptop off. Why?

Use Gparted to resize one of your existing partitons and free up some space for swap and then assign that space as swap partition.
