After 3 hours of trying to get my 1080p mkv videos to play smoothly I've given up on the idea that I can do that without help.
My System: Quadcore, GeForce 9400 GT, kubuntu karmic, nvidia accelerated graphics driver version 180, Linux version 2.6.31-4-generic.
I downloaded the newest mplayer (svn), ran ./configure with --enable-vdpau, make -j4 and make install. it compiles and installes fine. I even get "vdpau" in the -vo help list. But when I want to run mplayer, even without vdpau:
I would be really really grateful if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. Please don't just point me to a 2 year old HOWTO. I've tried them all, they didn't work

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: init_audio_codec
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.
