    i am a victim of AT&T's fascism.

proxy lets you get around it.

OpenDNS does not. <-- makes sense given the quote in the original post of this thread.

short of harm to the physical person or property of anyone associated with AT&T, i wont shed a tear over anything that may befall them.

if AT&T has customers engaging in criminal activity, they should prosecute them and not persecute me.

My first thought was "Good luck with that sht".

I've got a feeling that the DDos coordinator is rofling non-stop:
    1. DDos AT&T with spoofed IPs thereby pwning AT&T
    2. Wait for inevitable retaliation against spoofed IPs
    3. Spoofed IPs happen to be 4chan who proceed to pwn AT&T again
    4. lulz at double pwning

That's a ridiculously unrealistic portrayal of how things would go down. It would be very hard to DDOS an ISP...if its even possible, I've never heard of it being done...and they can take countermeasures to make DDOSing very difficult.

And you have to keep in mind that participating in a DDOS is a crime for which you can and will be prosecuted. Its not a joke, multiple government departments have people who only work on things like that.

ISPs control the internet. There are not as many of them as it seems. A handful control a vastly huge share of the market. Those ISPs control not only user access, but server access. If an ISP wants to kill a website, it can. The way to convince them not to is not to attack them. That justifies their actions, and makes it seems like a good idea. If 4Chan attempts to respond in that way, then 99% of people are going to be in favor of them being blocked, as they'll be convinced they are a dangerous group of people.

The only way ATT will remove the block is if it seems financially advantagous.

Curiously, though, I call ********. I have ATT DSL, and I can visit img.4chan.org without difficulty. Don't need a proxy or anything. It does not seem blocked to me. It seems more like an isolated error that is being misreported.

It was a temporary block over a limited geography, in order to curb a DDoS through their network, that has since been lifted,

DDos attacks have already taken out entire countries.

Kyrgyzstan was gone for 7 days:
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/01...ocked_offline/

Cloud Nine ISP permanently shut down operations after sustained DDos'ing:
    http://www.geek.com/articles/news/is...acks-20020123/

Hell, the DNS rootservers have already come fairly close to collapsing twice:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distrib...ot_nameservers
And those are already using anycast to spread DDos loads.

No. In many cases the legitimate packets and the attack packets look identical. So your option are #1 Cut of legit customers or #2 server gets taken down.

If the botnet is big enough then there is *nothing* one can do except block everything.

Maybe you are getting different news than I am. As far as I can tell from various sources the ISP is seeing both incoming and outgoing DDos attacks from the 4chan ip for some time now. Hence the block. Clearly the one side is spoofed. The incoming side was reported on the 4chan status page:
    http://status.4chan.org/

I honestly don't think that was the case - unless you're being satirical, in which case, I agree.

Although 4chan is a pretty horrid site, I still think it should be there.

And the ban is NOT going to work for some people - they would be using proxy servers to get to 4chan.

I bet Anonymous would be criticising AT&T for blocking access to 4chan
