New To Ubuntu, Trying to fix ToME

So, I'm new to Ubuntu, but I've been playing roguelikes for a while now, my favorite is ToME, so I was glad to see it on the Package Manager, but then, it won't install. From what I can tell, it's related to the bug found here:

but, I can't be 100% sure. In any case, if I found the patch posted on that site, but I can't figure out how to get that into the program. I know it's probably pretty simple, but if someone could walk me through it, that would be much appriciated

sorry, wasn't thinking, ToME installs, but crashes as it tries to create a savefile before you ever get into the game. Sorry, it's rather late here, and I've been working on this for a while now
