Cheap video card and modem suggestions?

I'm wanting to install Ubuntu onto my desktop but I need a better video card (mine is from the 90s). And I also need an external USB dail up modem as my Lucent modem wont work in my desktop for some reason. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to stay under $40 each.

Assuming you only have pci slots, this is the cheapest video card I could find that I would recommend:

I can't help you on the modem, its been ages (ie. decades) since I used one.

If your hardware is really that old, I would caution you against going with a cutting edge Linux distribution. Go with one of the older, but still supported releases. After all your not going to be happy running Jaunty on a 10 year old platform, the performance is going to suck.

I'll probably be running 8.04 due to the three year support. I might get the lastest though (I just don't want to install each new release every six months and kill my drive). But my computer isn't ten years old yet. It has an Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz processor and 512 MB of DDR ram. But my dad gave it to me without a video card so I had to pull out the old one as a temporary solution. Windows XP works flawlessly with it but Ubuntu does not like it at all. And with XP having no support (and the fact that I have a pirated copy) makes me feel very uneasy. So with Ubuntu being free and more friendly with cheaper/older hardware I thought this would be the best solution for me. So my PC will have no problem with it once I get a new video card and USB modem.

EDIT: However, I must say thank you for your suggestion and concern.

    Modem that will work:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ACTIONTEC-56K-EX...3286.m20.l1116

    (assuming your motherboard is AGP)
    take your pick: http://www.dark-circuit.com/directro...ems/agp8xa.php

I'm using an EVGA AGP Geforce 6200 in HTPC and its working great. Its passively cooled too.
100 buckets of bits on the bus,
    100 buckets of bits,
Take one down, short it to ground,
FF buckets of bits on the bus.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestions. However, I should have stated this in my first post, I do not have and AGP motherboard and I don't like ebay. I'm a very cautious person when it comes to average people like myself and buying from them without seeing their faces. I don't mind professional online businesses though. But if I can find that modem else where I'll buy it. Thanks.
