How to set up new icons for mail-notification 5.4?

As said in titel, i want to change mail-notification 5.4 applet icon (showing no messages in inbox), but i do not know how to do. On official web sites stays that advanced users are many setup options.

It shouldn´t be difficult, but i don´t know where to find and replace these icons.

Any help appreciated

P.S. I posted it on other thread, but i´ll ask again:

1) how to set it to make shorter intervals between mail checking?

2) is it possible to make these opacity jaunty effects when i click on the icon showing new messages (i do not want to use pop-up)?

The icon that i want to replace was here:

/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/stock/net/stock_inbox.png

In lucid on a laptop this does not work for me. I can see that the icon is replaced but mail-notification 5.4 keeps displaying the old icon ... is it cached somewhere?
