    ATI Driver... Set up??

    Hellote all:

I recently bought a HP Pavilion dv6-1107AX, with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650. This is evidently quite a rare card, as I can't find any support on it for Ubuntu.

I want to change to the open source driver, as Catalyst is crap for Ubuntu in general, but I'm a bit new to the graphical side of Ubuntu, so I'm not sure how to do the xorg.conf bit, and which drivers to use.

Can anybody help me? It's kind of messing up hibernate, suspend, HDMI output, etc.

    Cheers,
    d2000

I found that... But I'd like to know the specific driver required for my model.

    Thanks for that, though

If you de-install the ATI driver, it will automatically detect your card and use the right open-source driver.
    Just make sure your run:
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
in a terminal. It will create a clean xorg file.

I've only briefly scanned the topic. It should be for the 4000 series, so my guess would be the 4650 would be in that too. I have a radeon mobilty x700 myself and tried a lot of custom configs, only to just use default settings in the end.
