I'll check back later then.
just download driver from ATI/AMD site
and run file in terminal with sudo
.
--- I am what I am because of what we all are ----
He wanted to use the open source driver, instead of the ATI one.
In safe mode.. Rebooting....
Ok. Fglrx has been purged. Screen has reverted to 800x600 format.
Can I do something?
Scratch that... Googled it. Me happy Now to find out how to use the hdmi output...
Also: Do you know if you can get the radeonhd driver to work with Compiz??
Is there an alternative to compiz?
I've been using emerald, and this doesn't really seem to like it.
There's not really much of an alternative.
I believe KDE has it own set of desktop effects.
The question is though: Do you want al the fancy 3D effects?
I personally use xubuntu (xfce) and I'm quite happy with it.
You can also switch to metacity as windowsmanager under gnome.
to check if your driver is working correctly, type:
glxinfo | grep render
it should output something like:
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 20060815 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL
I have a different graphic card, so your result will a bit different.
The important thing is, that it should not say software renderer.
Nah, it doesn't have a software vendor. Some guff about Mesa. I just use things like Gnome Do which need 3D rendering... ...Which the radeonhd driver cannot support yet. I'm not such a patient person... Would the driver be the same on KDE?
