    External HDD installation

Ok guys, here is the problem:

My internal Hard-Drive is about to fail (formating and re-formating because Ubuntu has no backup program). I installed last time Vista on it because i needed some program to work with that did not work on Linux. Now, Vista work awful (it might be viruses or hard-disk errors), so i want to install Linux so i can at least spend some time at my PC if not to work on it. I have this external 320 Gb Hard-Drive, can i install Ubuntu on it? I guess i can but will it work decently fast?

    Thank you.

Yes you can. See link. Albeit for 8.04, the process is similar

    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ubuntu-...tall/#more-372

Or, you can make a persistent liveUSB and use the external as an extra storage space,. See same link and browse for persisten liveUSB.

    Good luck.

    Thanks !

I am more interested of how fast the OS will work. Will it be faster than on Live CD?

Merlin's right. Fastest (I think) will be a flash drive.
