i highly doubt it. give the devs some time. the new version is usually more secure, and security is very important to the ubuntu devs.

let alone that this FF3.5 is supposed to be twice as fast for linux machines than FF3

That all may be. But they don't put new version into old releases. If there are security patches, then maybe. But not new versions.

    Been that way forever.

Are there any distros that practice putting new versions?

Probably not. It's a complicated process and the dependencies/compatibilities can also be a problem

Re: When will we be able to upgrade to firefox 3.5 from repositories?

Slim Odds is right. They won't update the Ubuntu 9.04 repositories with new software. It only gets security fixes and some bug fixes. There's a chance it will get pushed into "Backports".

If you want to install it soon(ish), you can add Fabien Tassin's PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~fta/+archive/ppa It's currently building, but it will probably be ready soon. Just install the firefox-3.5 package in Synaptic. It will install alongside of the current version of Firefox (I think). Also, I'd recommend removing/disabling the PPA when you're done if you use other software that he has packaged, just so that future updates don't break your Gwibber, for example.

You can try a distro with a rolling release cycle. They tend to be a lot less stable, but they get newer software quicker.

It's probably much easier to just use a PPA though if you want a stable system but just need new software for an application or two.
