scsi emulation not kicking in while connecting lacie lacinema black

hi,

just bought a Lacie Lacinema black max, 1 TB.
it's basically a USB external hdd, streamer, and tv tuner.

when connecting it to my ubuntu 8.10 PC (or 9.04 laptop) via USB no auto-mounting happens.

this is what I get:

no /dev/sd* is created.

just thought i'd mention that scsi emulator is kicking in for usb mp3 player for example..
Lacie tech support says that the lacinema should work the same way too..

any ideas? please?

a workaround -
worked for me after updating the firmware of the machine, and using latest Windows VirtualBox.
