Question Please help with numerous problems

I seem to be having a few minor problems with my pc setup.

I have a HP server tc2120 running 9.04 Kubuntu with all updates installed.
I am regularly trying out new programs but i can't see what could cause theese problems.

If anyone can help in any way i would greatly appreciate it.

randomly reads dvd drive - even though theres nothing in it.
Seems to have a mind of its own. Its doing it right now and i've only got opera running.

Whole pc froze up when i logged into this website. Nothing would make it snap out of it. hasn't happened before.

Doesn't shut down properly. I click shutdown in the menu and eventually the screen goes black with a mouse pointer. I have to ctrl alt bckspc to restart x server and click shutdown.

I had a interrnal hard disk mounting at a specified folder but now it shows up as a password protected volume in dolphin. ??? annoying because like my wallpaper doesn't load.

Characters keep getting repeated but there only pressed once. For instance i press space and sometimes it puts 2 or more spaces. randomly happens with lots of characteers. (see look at the e's)

Sound system is buggy-sound used to be fine but then it only came out of the right side and now it won't work at all. I test the sound in system settings and it seems to work but no sound comes out.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I've read on the forums (and experienced myself) that for some people their system hangs on shutdown if they have a wireless card. The workaround I use is to leave wireless switched off and use a wired connection.

Ubuntu seems to have a hard time dealing with scsi cdrom/dvd drives. Could that be the problem?
