    Re: Grub 2 Basics

    [edit]
    Nevermind. It's working now. There was a "GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=1" entry remaining after the "GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true". I only noticed it after posting here. ^^'
    [/edit]

    I just can't get grub 2 to save the last booted entry.
    Here's my /etc/default/grub:
    Code:
    # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
    # /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

    GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
    #GRUB_DEFAULT="Windows Vista (loader) (on /dev/sda1)"
    #GRUB_DEFAULT=0

    GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true

    #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
    GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

    # Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
    #GRUB_TERMINAL=console

    # The resolution used on graphical terminal
    # note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
    # you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo'
    #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

    # Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux
    #GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true

    # Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu entries
    #GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY="true"

    # Uncomment to get a beep at grub start
    #GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 1"

    Install freezes

    Love Ubuntu.

    Hit a logjam on another machine.

    I've got a Windows box that freezes during wubi, live cd or USB install of Ubuntu.

    Any thoughts / suggestions?

    Thanx

    I'd recommend starting a new thread if you can't find a solution already posted. Be a bit more descriptive about where in the process the system freezes and what kind of computer you are trying to install it on (especially if the specs are suspect/older machine).

    The first advice you are likely to get is do an MD5SUM check to make sure the CD isn't corrupted, and next will be to burn the ISO at a slower speed. The third will probably be to try the Alternate CD, which is a bit more forgiving during the installation process.

    Good luck.
    Back to Xorg...

    Re: Grub 2 Basics

    I had (still have, actually) Vista installed on one of my HDDs and installed 10.04 on one of my other HDDs (both SATA).

    Now, I can't boot into Vista. Whenever I do update-grub I get the following output:

    Code:
    Generating grub.cfg ...
    Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic
    Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-22-generic
    Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic
    Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-21-generic
    Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin
    done
    I've tried reading through the grub2 tutorial stuff and holy crap it's confusing... Can anyone help me figure out why my Vista partition isn't being picked up by Grub?

    Thanks!

    I ran Boot Info Script, in the event that this information can help someone give me info on how to get GRUB to properly see my Vista partition.

    Code:
                    Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010

    Re: Grub 2 Basics

    It is really best if you start your own thread.

    It is easier for you to keep track of and also for anyone trying to help you.

    It is easier for someone with the same type of problem to find it by funning a search.

    Why don't you do that, and post a link here?

    I went ahead and started my own thread here.

    Sorry for the clutter.

    Re: Grub 2 Basics

    I'm having a little trouble with my attempt to boot a number of iso files using grub2, including a live clonezilla, gparted, ubuntu, and once I figure everything else out, I'd like to add my copy of spinrite and other utilities. I have posted a more detailed thread about this here if anybody would like to take a look. Thank you very much for your help.
