Nevermind. It's working now. There was a "GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=1" entry remaining after the "GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true". I only noticed it after posting here. ^^'

I just can't get grub 2 to save the last booted entry.
Here's my /etc/default/grub:

I'd recommend starting a new thread if you can't find a solution already posted. Be a bit more descriptive about where in the process the system freezes and what kind of computer you are trying to install it on (especially if the specs are suspect/older machine).

The first advice you are likely to get is do an MD5SUM check to make sure the CD isn't corrupted, and next will be to burn the ISO at a slower speed. The third will probably be to try the Alternate CD, which is a bit more forgiving during the installation process.

I had (still have, actually) Vista installed on one of my HDDs and installed 10.04 on one of my other HDDs (both SATA).

Now, I can't boot into Vista. Whenever I do update-grub I get the following output:

I'm having a little trouble with my attempt to boot a number of iso files using grub2, including a live clonezilla, gparted, ubuntu, and once I figure everything else out, I'd like to add my copy of spinrite and other utilities.
