    another NVIDIA EDID problem

    Hey everybody,

    My desktop has run great since Hardy. I now run Jaunty. Two days ago my NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS gpu (driver version 180.44) decided to stop recognizing the EDID from my monitor and set it to an almost-unusable 640x480. I have tried manually editing the xorg.conf file, without success. I have included the current and original xorg.conf files below, as well as Xorg.0.log and the output from ddcprobe and xrandr. Please help me!

    Yes, through the NVIDIA X server settings tool. It reports the same available resolutions as xrandr:
    640x480
    576x432
    512x384
    400x300
    320x240

    That's a good question because I'm having a similar problem with dual monitors on my GeForce card using nVidia drivers. Please keep this updated. It might help me out & sorry to see you have a similar/same problem.

    I know I could be completely off here but have you tried entering HorizSync and VertRefresh with ".0" added?

    HorizSync 30.0-80.0
    VertRefresh 56.0-76.0

    Having similar issue and the only difference I see between your xorg.conf and mine is the decimal place. Although while I am able to set my screen to the correct resolution now once X starts at 800x600. I than save the new xorg.conf settings via sudo nvidia-settings but when X restarts for some reason 1024x1080 VertRefresh is outside the range that I specified and I get a blank screen after logging in.

    One more question is the HorizSync and VertRefresh that you are using the one specified by your screen manufacture?

    Hey port67, thanks. Sorry I haven't responded but I've been out of town.

    The HorizSync and VertRefresh frequencies were provided by the manufacturer.

    However, I would like to report this problem as solved! There was a lot of dust collecting behind my tower. I unplugged everything and cleaned the area out. Then, when I booted again, I had full resolution. I guess there must have been dust in the connection somewhere!
