I have been looking at firestarter and have seen that the mwaste has been sending just as much data as my normal ethernet connection. I was wondering what this does? and have been searching around but have not gotten anywhere. Thanks

I urge you to remove firestarter in favor of GUFW. GUFW works better with Ubuntu, whereas Firestarter tends to be overzealous in it's blocking and tends to cause more problems than it fixes.
