Ubuntu for Mobiles

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this thread. If needed kindly move it to a suitable section.

I am interested in trying Ubuntu on mobile. I have heard of Ubuntu for Android. Can any one tell what is the minimum spec needed in a mobile to get ubuntu working satisfactorily ? I would like to buy a cheap mobile to experimenyt and learn. But as it might not be possible to root every mobile so kindly suggest some models that would be suitable for this kind of work and also not expensive.

Ubuntu for Android is a lie. Its just an Ubuntu themed Android laucher. What you are really loking for is Ubuntu Mobile. Ubuntu Mobile only runs on Google Nexus devices. Specifically the Nexus 7 and 10. Nexus 7 is $200. But at the momoment Ubuntu Mobile is unsusable because it is still in development and wont be here till late this year or early next.

Oh ! That sounds dissapointing !
But anyway how can that themed launcher be installed ?
Is it really somthing very different ?

Here's a link to a project that has a usable mockup of Ubuntu Mobile based on Android. But I have no idea of how well it works.

Looks like it can work with non-rooted phones. It's just a custom homescreen launcher.
