    12.04 desktop sharing not working

I have 2 computers with 12.04 installed on both. On one I have turned on 'desktop sharing' and on the other I am attempting to connect using 'remote desktop viewer'.

When I attempt to connect from the client I get the error...
Connection to host I.p.I.p was closed.

I am able to successfully get a terminal connection via ssh so there is no network visibility issue.

Are there logs I can check? Or another way to diagnose connection issues?

    thanks,
    Stuart.

    Hi sbarlster.

What protocol are you using? The default 'desktop sharing' only works with the VNC protocol.

Let us know how it goes.

Just using the default VNC protocol. I'm suspecting its a user rights issue. Possibly. When I manually run the vino server (from the command line) with sudo then I can successfully connect.

But doesn't work when I run it as my admin user - the one user I created during the Ubuntu install.

Re: 12.04 desktop sharing not working

I have now decided to not use 'desktop sharing' and stick with SSH to remotely connect to the server. After a couple of discussions I realised that 'desktop sharing' did not give me all I needed. Shame however that it did not work.
