Good driving simulation for Ubuntu

Can someone recommend me a good driving simulation game. I don't want racing game. I'd like a simulation (something like Flight Simulator or Flight Gear, but instead of flight simulation - driving simulation). The best I could find is Midtown Madness and that's a non-free windows game. I simply can't find driving simulations.

There's torcs and vdrift, but I can't figure out how to install either. We need a packaging team.

Last I knew Torcs was in the repository (though it probably is not the most recent version). Also it is a racing sim, but you could just set the number of other cars to 0 and drive around the track by yourself. Hope this helps

the game racer is a VERY nice driving simulation, because of it's graphics and its very realistic handling, however, I don't know how to install it on ubuntu, I just know you can. I have it running on my windows laptop

You could try Rigs of Rods, it's a truck driver game:

As said earlier, vdrift is a good one. It is, however, quite complex to install and the latest precompiled linux version is very out of date. I am currently working on writing a script that will download the source, after a prompt install the necessary packages, then compile vdrift.

I always found TORCS to be a nice simulation, despite not being cool on the eye.

Always fancied the Mercedes CLK-GTR... Despite not being, by far, the best car seen on the tracks. Just a cool looking car
