File browser: make "List view" the default?

I much prefer viewing folders and files as a list in the File Browser but have not been able to figure out how to set this as the default. Would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to go about it.

    TIA

In Nautilus, go to Edit/Preferences. On the view tab there is an option to change the default view.
