Ubuntu unable to ping XP

I am using a crossover connection from Ubuntu to Win XP.

The XP machine has the ip address: 192.168.0.2.
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

The firewall on XP machine is disabled.
Also the "ICMP allow incoming echo request is checked"

I am not able to understand why my Ubuntu cannot ping XP, whereas XP pings Ubuntu.

Please help me with this.

What exactly is the error message from ubuntu?
Also, post the output of

sudo iptables -L

Ubuntu does not show any errors...

I guess the Network Manager is causing problem...

If you can't ping it, then I very much doubt if samba will work. I suggest you don't waste your time with samba until you have got pings working. Not that I have any idea what the problem is.

Perhaps see if the arp entries are right. In Linux it's arp -an but I don't know whtat the windows version is.

Ok.. i put arp -an and got the MAC address of the windows machine...
also suddenly.. it was pingable out of nowhere....

anyways I've got what I wanted to do, put them as my signature.

The ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) table provides you with a lookup from IP address to MAC address. I was wondering if the ARP table had the correct MAC address in it, and you confirm that it does.
