get a pop sound at boot up

any body have this
I usually forget to turn off my speakers.
During boot up before the log on sounds i get a pop sound or a crackle sound as the speakers seem to go online with the OS
any ideas what that is i never heard that in previous releases????

On my old computer, I got this loud pop, since 7.04 up till Karmic.

But when I got my new computer, it stopped.
Something with sound card i think

I get the pop sound as well. I think it has to do with Ubu initialising my soundcard. Running 8.04 on a Thinkpad T23. My guess is that this is normal on some machines inc mine.

I have this too. It happens only with kernel 2.6.28-11, though (and not with kernel 2.6.27-13). There is a bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/359055

i think that it's also a speaker problem, not only a soundcard/OS

some dont have a softstart ( component that prevents that pop)

when i was useing a cheap noname 2.1 at startup i got that.
but when i bought a newer 2.1 that stoped.
and if i remplace one with the other, on the same pc, the cheap one pops, the more expensive doesnt.
