    Motherboards for Linux?

I'm putting together a new computer for 9.04 and thinking about this CPU & Motherboard combo. What do you think of this Gigabyte board? It will work on Ubuntu right?

Pretty decent board, IMO, especially for what you're paying.

I don't see any reason Ubuntu wouldn't work, but I can't promise you that it will. Everything that I can see is pretty standard spec so I'm guessing it would work fine. If a client wanted me to use this board for a build, I wouldn't have any reservations about it.

First of all you made the right choice *AMD* all the way.
Gigabyte and Asus boards are both great with Ubuntu
    Happy building!

sweet...I'm glad I went with AMD as opposed to Intel. What do you have for a PSU? I'm thinking 500W should enough for the one I'm building.

I'm confused. Are you saying Intel procs and MSI motherboards, for example, are NOT good choices for Ubuntu builds? I have a lot of satisfied clients who would very strongly disagree. Nothing wrong with AMD procs but there's nothing wrong with Intel procs either.

Depends on the total load you plan on putting on your PSU. Any RAID arrays? How many optical drives?

Too, pure output (e.g. wattage) is not the only consideration at hand. Cleanliness of the power provided is a huge factor and just as important. A 500W PSU transferring 13.5v on a 12v rail will ruin your whole day. The PSU is the LAST place to pinch pennies.

This is going to be my system:

1 Hard Drive 320 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache (Western Digital)
    1 CD/DVD combo
    AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
    Corsair 4 GB RAM
    NVIDIA 8800 graphics card
Apevia X-Cruiser ATX Mid Tower Case with Temp Gauge, Fan Speed Gauge, & Volume Gauge
    2 80mm LED fans
Air Duct & filter on side window (Thermally Advantaged Chassis)

So, for a PSU, I'm not sure what to get. There's this 500W PC Power and Cooling power supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703015
    OR this 550W one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004
    OR this 520W one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001
    OR this 650 one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005
    Apevia X-Cruiser | AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz | Gigabyte 790X-UD4P | 4GB G Skill RAM | WD 320GB HD | NVIDIA 8600GT | PC Power & Cooling 500W Silencer | Pioneer CD/DVD | Ubuntu 11.04
