Dear dmizer,
I am posting to this incredibly helpful thread in the hopes that you will be able to answer my samba/winbind question.
I upgraded a fully functional 64-bit 8.04 to 9.04 without a problem. When I updated to 9.10, however, I got the following errors:
Code:
errors were encountered while processing:
samba
winbind
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. trying to recover

Please note that I do not seem to be having issues in accessing my windows shares on my home network, but i do get this message with every package update, and it bugs me.
In 8.04 I had edited etc/samba.conf to read the following, and when I upgraded to 9.04, I elected to keep it.
My etc/samba/smb.conf is:
Code:
[global]
workgroup = markshome
netbios name = jmarks-desktop
server string = anonymous file server
security = user # was security= share
usernamemap = /etc/samba/smbusers # this line added for user-level share
printing = cups
printcap name = cups
load printers = yes
[common_share]
path = /sharedfiles
comment = anonymous share for all users
public = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
[printers]
comment = All Printers
browseable = yes
path = /var/spool/samba
printable = yes
public = yes
writable = no
create mode = 0700
#==================================Share Definitions
==================================================
# Un-comment the following (and tweak the other settings below to suit)
# to enable the default home directory shares. this will share each
# user's home directory as \\server\username
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = yes
valid users = %S
writeable = yes
I really would like to understand this problem.
Thanks so much for your help.
