Do you think I have to install a specific bios or i can choose just the last one? And can you tell me also how to update bios from ubuntu? I have no windows installed on my laptop...
Usually it is best to install the latest BIOS but it is probably best to ask guys with a 4810TG.
I think the 3810 has a different bios to the 4810.
It is best to install the bios from DOS or FreeDOS.
I do this by having SysRescueCD installed onto a flash disk. SysRescueCD is a useful live linux distro for troubleshooting and archiving. One of its options is to boot up FreeDos and you can install the BIOS from there.
If you search the forum I am sure there will be more detailed instructions of installing a bios from FreeDOS if you need them.
Thank you so much for your help. Just another thing: with 12-14 W I'm around the average?
Does anybody know how much resource the acer crystaleye (Suyin) webcam is using? I never use it. Is it possible to disable it? What modules can I turn off? I've searched the web and can't find any information.
Now that I've ensured all the other stuff isn't eating up the battery, Powertop is saying the webcam causes many of the wakeups and the top offenders do seem to be a USB device (I have no external device plugged in - so it much be an internal usb device).
I don't know if disabling it would save much but I would be interested to know, none the less.
Thanks for any help.
I have the same configuration, and in idle mode my power consumption below 10W. WIFI on, BT off, backlight minimal, etc.
If I am just use browser (adblock, other ad removers active! flash ads eat too much), the estimated battery life around ~6.5hours.
One of the biggest improvement was to enable the power save for wifi. I got more than 1 hour extra time.
I use my ATI card in powersave mode always, and the compiz active. Nice.
One more thing. I use the BIOS 1.20.
Actually I have no problem, a no reason to update. Unfortunately I have not seen any brief/detailed change log for BIOS.

Which laptop have you? 4810 or 3810? And can you explain me how to check if powersave for wifi is enabled? thank you
4810. I am not sure about the last 2 letters (TG?), but I have an ATI4330.
If I remember well you have to use iwconfig, and on the result you can see the powersaving status.

Thank you. So do you think the 1.20 BIOS is better than the last one?
