I have a problem with the audio on my 3810T as well. It used to work out of the box with a fresh Ubuntu 9.04, but it doesn't work anymore after installing the latest updates.
Is there a way to reset alsa, or what else should I try?
I just put a Live CD into my 4810 and it's worked like a dream: sound, wifi without a problem. I've now just got to get it to install without upsetting windows and everything will be fine and dandy.
Anyone who could link me to information regarding installing ubuntu (9.04) without upsetting my windows installation, that would be much appreciated. My plan is to have 3 partitions: Vista, Jaunty and a Data partition that both ubuntu and windows can read...
Incidentally, I can upgrade to Windows 7 today, acording to information that came with my timeline... I might give it a try.
["Turn off touchpad" button works, but you can't turn touchpad back on...]
Ok, I reinstalled jaunty, installed only the important security updates, and the sound still works.
Hi all,
I'd like to share my experience with my 3810T, Core2 Solo:
- with Jaunty, 4 GB mem shows only 2.9, using free
- BIOS v1.01, recovery after suspend works, hibernate is still problem
- a bit problem using compositing with Compiz, good with Metacity.
Recently I install Ultimate Edition, it works very well, where Compiz shows no problem with Compiz, but suspend and hibernate do not work at all.
Regards
Here is my experience with Acer 3810T (solo) and Xubuntu 9.04.
Almost everything works by default. Except:
1. Skype doesn't work with microphone. (Microphone works, but skype can't get sound from it).
2. Suspend to ram doesn't work
3. <s>Multitouch touchpad doesn't work.</s> synclient -m 100 doesn't show more than "1 finger".
I've tried to make it working with these guide:
http://ubuntu-snippets.blogspot.com/...synaptics.html
Do anybody use skype under xubuntu/ubuntu with these laptop? Have you any issues with mic?
<s>And what about multitouch touchpad, is it working for anybody?</s>
It is working me Sorry for confusing you guys.
It really doesn't show multi-touch support in synclient -m 100 output, however it works with following hal code (see link above for details):
The most confusing part is TapButton 2 and 3. According to these code "two fingers click" should emulate second (right button), but in my case with this hal code - two fingers click emulates 3-rd button.Code:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <deviceinfo version="0.2"> <device> <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad"> <merge key="input.x11_driver" type="string">synaptics</merge> <!-- Arbitrary options can be passed to the driver using the input.x11_options property since xorg-server-1.5. --> <!-- EXAMPLE: <merge key="input.x11_options.LeftEdge" type="string">120</merge> --> <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">On</merge> <merge key="input.x11_options.EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" type="string">80</merge> <merge key="input.x11_options.VertTwoFingerScroll" type="string">1</merge> <merge key="input.x11_options.HorizTwoFingerScroll" type="string">1</merge> <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton1" type="string">1</merge> <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton2" type="string">2</merge> <merge key="input.x11_options.TapButton3" type="string">3</merge> </match> </device> </deviceinfo>

Ah.. actually, it is not real multi-touch support. It is just emulation of multi-touch. So, Ubuntu can't recognize multi-touch capabilities of our touchpad. Isn't it?
Just a few words to thank all of you for your contribution to the linux community... I just got my 3810T and found this thread and I found the solution to *everything* here!
Simply put, today I'm really proud of being a linux user!
BAM, just installed ubuntu on my 4810 with no problems. I've not yet checked multitouch or webcam, but I'm not all that fussed about either.
But I will try and get the battery life back to 8 hours if possible. Any help in that respect is appreciated.
