install ubuntu 9.04 on macmini g4

I would like to install ubuntu 9.04 on my macmini g4 1.25ghz but I cant seem to boot up
i either get a black screen with nothing on it or my tv says input not supported, but my tv should work up to something like 1400X1050@75hz

The first thing I'd do is disable the infamous non-working Ubuntu splash screen.

Then, move on with the custom xorg.conf file that specifies your monitor's vertical / horizontal frequencies, in addition to the native resolution of that monitor.
