    Custom Remote Control

I have an htpc running ubuntu and xbmc. I have a gyration remote that is recognised as a keyboard/mouse and I'd like to customise it so the keys respond properly in xbmc. In the past on Windows I have use intelliremote to do this. I have tried xmodmap and xbindkeys, with little success. Ideally I'd like to have the keyboard left alone (it's a laptop) and the remote mapped differently (as opposed to, for instance, mapping the play button on the remote to "p," and then only being able to type the letter p by pressing the remote).

I'm no expert, but there's a program called joy2key that's available in the repositories that might be able to help you take inputs from the remote and translate it into stuff.
It might be worth checking out.

I appreciate it. I'll check it out and report.
